Iron Man
Despite the fact that I have been in this industry for 10+ years, dated "real" women and frequently enjoy a good night out with a nice glass of wine, my Achilles' heel has always been my undying love for comic books (yes, I still read them). So this week I was ecstatic when I got to see the sneak peak of the Iron Man movie at the new Rave Motion Pictures Theater at Town Square (Vegas' new outdoor shopping area).
But before I go on, you're probably wondering how I scored passes to this mega-blockbuster event. Well, one of the biggest perks of working for The Light Group is the fact that occasionally I get tossed some free swag. The best piece I've received to date is the pass I got from Mist's Marketing Director to go see the Las Vegas premiere of Iron Man for free. But part of the stipulation for her giving me the pass was that I had to go to their Monday night Guitar Hero event (which was fine since I'd wanted to go for a while - see blog 2). The added bonus for me was that in addition to being the Guitar Hero night, Mist also was throwing the Official Las Vegas release party for Iron Man, so it was a win-win situation for me. The only downside was that I continuously talked a big game to Mist's GM about how I'd destroy him if he'd actually play against me. Well, I enjoyed the taste of my foot in my mouth as he accepted my challenge then annihilated me in front of the evening's crowd. Oh well, next time Adam… next time… But even though I experienced plastic guitar execution on Mist's stage, the event was a blast and everyone there had a great time.
Back to Iron Man. This is one of the BEST movies I've seen in a long time and I predict that it's going to be a top box-office contender for a good long while. The story was great and stayed pretty true to the origin from the comic book, and Robert Downey Jr. gave a dead-on performance as billionaire playboy Tony Stark/Iron Man. I don't want to ruin anything for you since the movie opens up in theaters this weekend, but this is DEFINITELY a movie that you don't want to miss seeing on the big screen.
